NOTES ON USING STYLECRAFT LIFE CHANGES DK YARN WITH THE VALENTINA SHAWL PATTERN.
The completed shawl with the Life Changes DK yarn should be around 200cm x 50cm to the edge of the border.
While the pattern remains the same you may find a different hook size is required for the Stylecraft DK Yarn compared to the original 4 Ply Scheepjes Our Tribe
The tension is very important, make sure that a 10cm x 10 cm square done with TREBLES, is 20 stitches x 10 rounds.
NB: It is NOT Double Crochet – the tension square must be done with TREBLES.
2 x Balls of Stylecraft Life Changes ROSES
2 x Balls of Stylecraft Life Changes BISCUITS
As the border is done with the Roses yarn you may find there is very little left over so, it is important to keep an eye on how much you are using.
There should however be plenty of the Biscuits yarn left so you could alternatively do rounds 11 and 12 in Biscuit if you don’t think you will have enough of the Roses left.
A 3.5mm hook was used rather than a 4mm on the sample shawls so that the trebles didn’t have too obvious gaps. Again this is dependent upon individual preferences and hook sizes.
Finally a soak in Eucalan Fine Fabric wash and some hair conditioner makes the final Valentia Shawl feel lovely and soft.

Yarn has been my hobby for most of my life, ever since I sat under our fig tree in Tuscany with my grandmother and her friends when I was 5 years old.
Then, after working as an interior designer for over 25 years and bringing up four children, I wanted a new challenge because I always dreamt to turn my hobby into my dream job.
I believe that no matter what age you are it is all about living bravely and fully and using your life experiences as your most powerful tool to live your dreams.
None of this could have been possible without the relentless support of my family and the confidence they instilled in me to go forward.
So this Shawl is dedicated to my family and especially to my daughter Valentina, as she starts her first ‘grown-up’ job in London and we all miss her very much.
This has been a team effort, so special thanks go to Poppy’s (poppys-holmfirth.com) the supplier of the yarn and the product photography, Louise Cantwell photography, Francesca, for modelling and graphics and, last but not least, two special ladies, Kathryn Middleton and Janet Donaldson. They tested and amended the pattern, making several versions in different colourways in the process!
