A beautiful new blanket designed by Lucia Dunn

Inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s amazing programme, ‘Blue Planet 2’

Lucia's Inspiration

The inspiration for my Walrus blanket has been Sir David Attenborough’s amazing program, ‘Blue Planet 2’.
This programme is not only about the extraordinary beauty of the World that we live in, but there is also an emphasis on how important it is to be aware of the fragility of our environment.

I was truly astonished when I watched the poor mother Walrus, swimming in the icy waters of the Arctic, desperately clutching to her exhausted pup as she grows increasingly tired needing to find a resting place for herself and her baby. As ice flows diminish, she finds competition so fierce she must fight her way through the other breeding Walruses to find sanctuary.

I wanted the blanket to be warm, comforting and safe, like a Mother’s hug.

The pattern offers two yarn’s options:
Option 1 -  Using Stylecraft’s Special Aran and Alpaca Tweed Chunky.
Option 2 -  Made with Scheepjes Stonewashed XL.

Special thanks go out to Poppy’s of Holmfirth the supplier of the yarn and product photography, Francesca Dunn for graphics and to Kathryn Middleton, an indispensable member of the team, who tested and amended my pattern.

Happy hooking,
Lucia xx
